Hi from the Welsh Valley of Ebbw Vale.
I have been dicussing our wedding video (vhs format) with my wife, and am trying to find out if it is possible to transfer it from it's current vhs format onto my hard drive (then perhaps I can put it onto a CD for safer keeping.
Any suggestions (apart from "shouldn't have got married in the first place") would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Mr Shovel Hands (Graham)

You can definitely transfer VHS or any other video format onto your hard drive. You will need an adapter and software to do so, but they are readily available and will probably cost a bit more than $100 US.

The ATI All in Wonder cards do video capture. That's what you need is a video capture device. They make USB capture devices, but they generally are of a limited image size. The best bet is a dedicated card for full size capture...
You'll need a relatively fast system (at least 500mhz) with a decent amount of ram (512mb or more) and lots of storage space (10gb+) although check the requirements for the device you choose...

Graham,
You might want to have a look at the ATI All-in-Wonder Pro 128 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=ati+all+in+wonder+pr) on NewEgg. For $72.00 you get a TV Tuner for you computer and you can capture Video...record from VHS, or you can use your HDD to record your favorite TV programs. Heck of a Deal!
I couldn't live without mine...all the TVs are tied up around my place...besides, I like to watch the TV while I'm checking out the PC GUIDE! ;)

Cheers everyone,
I will be looking into the prices of these options over here in the UK (bound to get ripped off). But as it is my birthday next week, perhaps I can talk my wife into giving me a "surprise" (won't be much of a surprise, as I will have to go and get it for her) present for my PC.
Thanks again
Graham
