Hey. I have a 6gb C drive and a 40gb Maxtor 7200, which is my D drive. My CD rom drive is E. I've formatted my C drive and have Windows 98 installed and I'm in business again. Here's my problem: I backed up some stuff form C: and put it on D: I thought once I came back I could get right into D: and get my stuff back. But when I go to My Computer and click on D: it says: D:\ is not accessible. A device attached to the system is not functioning. I have a CD and a disk that came with the hard drive. I popped those in thinking maybe once I went through them it would pick up the D: drive, but it says something about partitioning (I think it's that) and formatting, which I don't want to do. Any ideas on how I can get into D: drive?

What is the file system of your Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm, i.e. your D:\ drive? You'd better check that first.

If you are using Win98 and your D:\ is not FAT32 (FAT16 only max at 2GB) or if it is NTFS, sorry... you cannot see it under your Windows Explorer. What you can do instead is you can run a command.com for NTFS bootdisk, and then view your files in MSDOS, not in Windows Explorer.

Welcome YFS!!!!
It happened to me once before but that time I did not back it up C:, your case may be little different. What I did was I remove the cable from D: and turn on the sys. Turn off again connect back D: and turn on again, there it was. Why it happened like that, I have no idea, let Pros guide us why.

When I right click on D, it just says FAT under file system. I will try unplugging the cable when I get home. Thanks for the help.

Unhooking it and rehooking didn't work. :( I'm not sure what to do. Should I just put the CD and floppy from Maxtor in and just go through what it says or should I wait until Monday and call tech support and see if there's another way?????
