Hi. I have a SoundBlaster PCI 64v sound card. I can't install drivers after I formatted. I put the restore CD in and it just keeps "installing driver" then it gets to 100% and starts over. Then it says it can't find the hardware. Any ideas what to do? I have Windows 98. Thanks.

Is the sound card listed in Device Manager, and does Dev. Mgr. list any problems with it(IRQ conflict, etc.)?
If the above is ok, did you try d/l drivers from the sound card manuf's. site?

It's in device manager, it's listed under "Other devices" with a question mark. It has a question mark before and then "PCI Multimedia audio device" I click on that and this is what it has:

Device type: other devices
Manufacturer: None specified
Hardware version: 002
Device status- The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device, click reinstall driver.

I double click reinstall driver, it runs through the update driver wizard. I downloaded drivers from the website.

Make sure the sound card is securely seated.
Then, remove it from Dev. Mgr., restart, and reinstall the drivers.

It still won't work for me. :( I don't know why it won't work this time. It has all the other time's that I've formatted.

Is the box unchecked for 'Disable in this hardware profile', and the box checked for 'Exists in all hardware profiles' for the sound card in Dev. Mgr.?
If so, did you try installing the card in a different slot?

If this is an actual card, try pulling it and reseating it a couple of times, also swapping it to another slot.

Boot into safe mode and remove all occurences of it (even if it only shows up in "Other Devices").

I suggest removing the drivers from device manager, downloading the new drivers by searching for them on the internet or downloading from your soundcard website, then starting windows in safe mode, and copying the new drivers into your c:\windows\system folder replacing the old drivers. This recently worked for me and I have had no more trouble yet.
