View Full Version : Falure Reading Drive A
i just rebuilt my computer on a new mother bored. i need to install drivers so i can get the computer running. but my floppy drive doesnt work. i go to dos and type "A:" then "dir/w" and i get the message "Falure to Read Drive A" and get the options "Abort, Retry, Fail?" what does this mean and how can i fix it????
Is the light always on? Does it spin up at all?
Try reseating the cable making sure that it is properly oriented, als try reseating the power connection.

yea i had the problem before but i fixed it. when i type A: the floppy starts to read the disk but that message just keeps coming up. i have no idea whats wrong. and i just remembered that when i boot up the comp. it reads my two hd the cd rom but when get gets to the floppy it said falure reading drive a to resume hit f1.
If the cable is connected properly and this still happens then either the cable is bad or the drive itself is dead. And if you are getting an error message at boot then the likelyhood of the drive being dead greatly increases.....you can try a new cable and if still happens then it is time for a new drive. You can check some place like PriceWatch (http://www.pricewatch.com) for prices on new ones.

You can always try looking in The PC Guide. I found this (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/fdd/errors-i.htm) easily with a quick and simple search for "read and failure".
Mother bored?
