now this problem has really ... yeh realllllllllly tested my patience. a few months back i installed Netscape 6 thinking of it as a 'permanent' alternative to IE as it crashed a lot back then. the problem i faced then was that the forward-back buttons remained disabled even after browsing more than 1 page. even the forward-back option from menu was greyed out and also the 'backspace' shortcut key didnt work. i referred the problem to netscape techsupport but didnt receive any reply.

i said ok, fine, no probs..... coz good things come to those who wait (not forever) :p. So i waited. Netscape 7 was launched. Netscape 6 was uninstalled. Netscape 7 was no better. Still the same problem. so again Netscape 7 was uninstalled. PC rebooted. Deleted the two folders it created. ran Regclean. PC rebooted. Netscape 7 reinstalled (this time using Total Uninstall) Still the same problem.

Tried uninstalling thru TU but it was even worst. it removed only the shortcuts and the uninstallation prg entry from Add-Remove Prgs. Netscape was still there (laughing at me !) so i kicked it outta my system using a third party uninstaller. pc rebooted, folder delted, regclean ....

This time i thought to install Netscape's alter ego i.e. Mozilla. Still the same ooooooold problem i.e. forward-back buttons disabled.

One thing i noted is even if i removed Netscape completely , that is uninstalled, delted its folder after uninstalling, running regclean, the passwords and the master key i saved in Netscape 6 were automatically applied to both Netscape 7 and Mozilla.

I use Opera 6.3, but even its not performing well. Sometime back when the softwares in my pc were at WAR, i removed IE 5.5 and installed IE 6 (again), but it too hangs sometimes (much lesser compared to previous installation) and cant open 30% sites at first go. i have to refresh.... its like it has set a time-out period for a webpage to be 30 seconds., though the same page opens fast in Netscape and now, Mozilla. anyways thats another story .... will 'THE END' it sometime latter. ;) at present i am interested in ending the Netscape-Mozilla story. please help me..... i m stuck up in interval ...... :p

You likely have a corrupted Netscape profile. Run the Netscape profile manager, delete the profile, then create a new one. There should be a shortcut to it in the Start Menu.

If that doesn't work you can delete the profile manually and force Netscape to create a new one. On an NT system the profile is stored somewhere like: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Netscape\Profiles. On a Win98 system it stored somewhere within C:\Windows.... I'm a little vague about this because I have Mozilla installed but not Netscape :)

When you uninstall Netscape or Mozilla, your Netscape (or Mozilla) profile is not removed. This is probably why your old settings reappeared after uninstalling and re-installing a new version.

Also, never attempt to use the same profile for Netscape and Mozilla. Bad things happen. If you install/use both, always have a separate profile for each.

thx a lot, sleddog i deleted the older profile from Mozilla > Profile Manager and poof ! .... the forward-back buttons were enabled once again (after months). Seems it was their hibernation time !

Next, i uninstalled Mozilla and reinstalled Netscape 7 and everything works fine there too. thanks once again. i hope i wont have to come back to this thread for any further problems. ;) :)
