Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING has broken at once. About a month ago I received my Verizon DSL package with a different router than I was promised. I tried it, with hours and hours of tech support and it still wouldn't work. Then Verizon sent me a different router and, guess what, it didn't work either. Then a friend agreed to help me. I bought wireless equipment from Newegg. When it finally arrived I was again optimistic. Then, just like that, the modem shut off, never to be revived. I guess on Monday I'll call Verizon, and if they'll extend my trial period I'll ask for a new modem.

As if all that wasn't enough, both my wife's CDRW and my CD ROM died the same week. I took her CD ROM because it fit my silver bezel and bought 2 new drives for her. If you look at a long posting from a few days ago you'll see my tale of woe from the drives. The Buslink 40X CDRW was not recognized by Roxio. I tried twice to download Roxio's update, but since I still have a dial-up connection, the download was 5 hours. I left it downloading 2 nights in a row, and in neither case did it complete.

Also yesterday, my KDS LCD screen stopped working. Maybe my fault, not sure, but a pin on the connection had broken off and the monitor stopped. It's only 10 months old so KDS will replace it, but within 7 to 10 working days. So while I was trying to make the network work on one computer and fix the drives on the other, I've made multi-trips up and down 2 flights of stairs carrying the only monitor in the house that works (thank God it's an LCD and not too heavy).

Today I went to CompUSA to return the 40X Buslink and bought a 32X
Hi-Val, the same one she had before, so I new it'd work. It worked all right, but the new CD ROM worked only intermittently. I figured out that the pin or pins connecting to the molex were a bit big or something because they never fit as snugly as the CDRW's did. Out of desparation I ripped apart an old Dell I have and stole the CD ROM. For now, everything works.

Today, I hate technology! I'm tempted to trade everything in for a good quality radio, an abacus and a library card.

Just think we could be on skid row drinking thunderbird wine without a computer. But one good thing is it all happened at once and now it is over with. The best to you and yours and it does get better.

Haow'bout a Martin or an Ovation, maybe a Fender or Gibson,(You have this thing about technology, remmember?? {no radios}), a slide rule and a bicycle to GET TO the library??? :D (Not one with mulitple speeds just one like the 'witch' had in The Wizard Of Oz)

Last time I tried to do a long download, my computer went WHACKO with dial-up! If you did do this, it is worth mentioning again anyway:

If you MUST D/L something over the phone lines that is going to take several hours, DEFINITELY do it with: (BTW good luck... )

1:
A spare pc. Because mine needed to be reformatted (maybe not but it was a fairly fresh install so not much bother at that time) afterwards. (There was multiple quirks that needed attention so I dumped it for a fresh install)

2:
Use a pauseable/resumable downloader such as Download Accelerator or Star Dowloader. This way you can gain access to your phone line and pick up where you left off later.

3:
Did I forget to say disposable pc? Yeah, that's it...

Andy, how's that Thunderbird doin'? Would you be so kind as to pass it on this way?
