This seems like a good place to this topic.

Both my pal and I use the filesharing program WinMX and we both use Zone Alarm freebie. When we both have our ZA firewalls on it kills filesharing connection between us. If either one of us shuts off ZA then we can connect again. Don't know if anyone else has this problem but it exists for us. This might explain when other people try to connect to me and thier connection to my PC is automatically refused. Then I'm thinking they're using ZA as I am.

Have you given Access and Server permission in ZA for WinMX?

I give access permission but I don't give server permission to any program.

That is the reason you cannot share files. With server checked off, you can access other files, but others can't access yours.

You have three options.
1. Continue to shut down ZA in order to share files. (Which leaves your computer open to attacks.)
2. Give permission in ZA for WinMX to act as a server.
3. Or configure ZA to ask for permission for WinMX to act as a server on a need to access basis.

All it really does is give WinMX a 2-way communication to share files in the directories you specified and nothing more.

Myself, I have several programs set as a server. WinMX, ICQ, a FTP program, MSN Messenger, a webcam, and several online games. All those programs require server access in order for them to work correctly.
I feel pretty confident that I'm still protected.
