Has any body here ever heard of V Communications inc.? http://www.v-com.com/ I have been using System Suite from ontrac http://www.ontrack.com/ for about a year now and have been pretty happy with it but just got an e-mail that it has been sold(The software program not the company) to V Communications. I believe this was done so they could concentrate on thier data recovery software programs and some new things they are working on and introducing, as well as to make a quick buck. I am not a happy camper.
We have all been down that road at one time or another.
Onrtack Purchased Powerdesk some time ago.
After that the support went down the drain.
Few/No updates and Pay for Upgrades ..
That cost as much as the full retail version
Wait a few months
You may find V-com does it better than Ontrack

I use System Suite and have found it to be the most stable utility suite I have ever used, although it wasn't until I was very selective about installs. I really like PowerDesk. I didn't know that they had been sold and I am fearful that it will go down to road to uselessness that so many companies/programs have before when moving to a new company. Bummer.:(
In looking at the V-com site, it is promising that they sell CD Anywhere, I have heard that is a good program. It is disheartening that they don't seem to have the free version of PowerDesk anymore, although I suspect it will continue to be available in download libraries. We shall see.

I have to agree with you about Powerdesk.
I still have The pro version 4. (Retail) in Fact I still have the disks for all the previous versions
All the way back to the orignal for win3.1 ( Explorer Plus)
I Haven’t Paid the price yet for version 5
Unfortunately Ontrack was to busy adding FTP to it and not fixing the bugs in the 32 bit operation of the program.

I use the retail version of PowerDesk 4 that came with System Suite on my machine, but I install the free verion on most machines that I work on for other people. It is so much better the Win Explorer that MS should be embarassed. I have been surprised that MS hasn't gobbled them up.

Thanks all. I have been very happy with mine. I have powerdesk installed but have not really used it yet,but I love my avg I dont think it has missed a virus yet. even in websites it has been wonderful. The thing I like the most is the download on the fly, so I can still surf the web while updating my avg, I had Mcafee and could not do anything while I was updating and then about 3/4 of the time it didn't take.

Hi Lucius,
What do you mean by McAfee not taking? I use it and am really not sure what you mean. If it doesn't take ,how do you know?

What I mean by not taking is it would not download successfully. I know this because a screen would come up and say '.... Files did not successfully download....'
