View Full Version : Networked printer extremely slow

Hi,

I have two computers networked with one connected locally to a laserjet. The comps are networked with a hub, and there is a dsl router connected to that too.

The problem is with the 2nd comp when I try to print it takes forever. It looks like the program is not responding, but after 3-5 minutes it prints (doesn't matter if it's only one page).

It was working fine before, but I had to reinstall Win98 on the first comp (the one connected locally to the printer). I installed TCP/IP and NetBEUI along with Client for MS, and File & Print sharing.

The second computer can see the network, the other comp and all, but the first one can't access the network even though I can ping the 2nd comp.

They have different IP# (10.0.0.2/10.0.0.3, gateway 10.0.0.1).

I already reinstalled the printer on both comps, but it didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Which OS is the second machine using?
I've had major problems of a similar nature using Win XP.

Both are using Win98, same edition...

Have you tried re-installing the printer driver?

I'm not sure I follow you. I reinstalled the printer, and thus the driver, right? The driver is on the Win98 cd-rom.

1) Downlaod the latest driver for your printer from the printer mt's
web site.

2) Un-install the printer on the slave computer (the one the printer is
NOT attached to).

3) Install the new printer driver.

The reason for doing this is that printer drivers can become corrupted.

Ok thanks. I'll probably try that, but since I might upgrade to XP tomorrow and I'll wait and see if that helps.

Thanks again though.
