I'm trying to find the battery on a Biostar MB-8500TUC Motherboard. I have a Quantex Computer with a 200 Pentium Proc. an when I try to start the computer I get the grey screen with the message CMOS battery low. I've had the MB out and looked it over front an back and can't find anything that comes close to looking like a battery. Any body know anything about these?

Biostar does not even have the FULL manual for this board listed. You may want to try the following link; http://slf.gweep.net/~sfoskett/hardware/mb8433uud.html#Hardware

This lists some possible sites that you can find the info.

I can't find it either!

Welcome, tweetch! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Click here (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/mobo/comp_Battery.htm) for some help. It might help, but it might be bad news. Hope not. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I e-mailed Biostar with the MB model and the replied that you can't change battery but need to replace MB. Oh well at least now I know where I stand. Thanks again!

Seriously? That really stinks! Seems to me that any decent MB would have a replaceable battery. Dag! Is that normal? Should I never buy a Biostar MB? How long should a cmos battery last?

Found this by accident at another site. Dont know if it will be of assistance;

look for a chip labelled, "Dallas RealTime Clock".

if you find one, the battery is integrated with it internally.

do a search for "Dallas Real time Clock" on Internet and find a vendor.

the chip is removable with care.

take care when installing replacement to not bend any pins, and get them all
in the right holes.

If you are near a Fry's Electronics store you can get a new Dallas 12887A
chip for about $20 or get one from micro firmware: http://store.firmware.com/cgi-bin/mfi/DS12887A.html[chip with battery] http://www.firmware.com/support/bios/ds12c887.htm [substitute
DS12887A with DS12C887] http://www.dalsemi.com

If you are moderately brave, you may be able to replace the battery in the
clock chip. Get into the discussion forum at the PC Chips Lottery and
look for the post by Bill28099 on March 20, 2001. VERY informative: http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000125.html
