I use AVG antivirus. What path should be given in Download Accelerator (or any other software) in the Virus Checking box ?

there are many .exe files in the AVG folder ... i tried few but those would only open the AVG window or do some other specific task ... not scan.

i tried contacting their technincal support from help > technical support, but it requires a default email client which would inturn email them .... and i dont use one coz i use only webbased email accounts.

C:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG6\AVGSERV9.EXE runs the resident shield and is normally running in the background anyway.
C:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG6\AVGCC32.EXE runs the AVG-control panel and shows the icon in the system tray, when it is running.

Presumably there must be some sort of switch to use (equivalent to using a R-Click "Scan With AVG") to get it to scan a particular selection.

That probably doesn't answer you fully but I hope it is of some help.

Why can't you choose OE as the default client. Then when the message is created for you (it will include technical info about your system) instead of actually sending it via OE just copy and paste the message and subject line into your webmail and delete the one made for OE.

There's also no reason not to eMail them directly at technicalsupport@grisoft.com but the mail just won't contain the information about which version you have installed and your registration etc etc.

thx for replying Paul ... i already tried what you said regarding email ... but AVG hanged ... but now when i tried the same thing ... it worked... :) so am just waiting for their reply.

one more thing, i checked the tools>folder options > file-types(txt etc) for the path of AVG .... but didnt find one, infact there was not even an entry of AVG there although it shows up in right-click menu. :confused:

i will post back the solution if i get a reply.

The correct path for add AVG scanning to download accelerators is:

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Avgse.exe /quit (if the is a a separate box for arguements the /quit goes there)

You can use it to add scanning to just about anything that has provisions for it.....

mjc:C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Avgse.exe

There ain't any avgse.exe in AVG 7 free version. Also, I don't use DAP anymore. I need to know the path for other apps like yahoo msgr etc.

Hey rahul, geesh old thread. ;)

I don't have the answer for you as I stopped using AVG a long time ago. My suggestion is to consider switching to Avast!. With Avast, it has not only the standard resident shield, but a web shield, P2P shield, instant messaging shield, network shield, etc., eliminating any need to do the tweaks you wish to do.

For example, the webshield works by having all apps that wish to connect through port 80, connect through loopback port 1280 to the avast webservice , which then scans the web pages you're visiting. No noticeable slowdown.

Also the autoupdating of Avast! is flawless, not requiring a scheduled task.

Consider it.

I did use Avast for a couple of my months on Windows98 which resides on the other side of the "border" (read harddisk "partition"). I am on XP now :p. For some odd reason, I didn't like Avast, mainly coz it had way too many features and the spherical icon in the tray kinda annoyed me when it rotated during updates. :D :D

One more thing.. not related to the topic, heck, none of the above ain't related to the original topic anyway.. :D Below you can see a screenshot of the email notification of your reply. If you notice my name has been misspelled as 'rahulk' but when I checked back on the site, I was unchanged. Totally original - 'rahul'. Any idea, why this happened? Ok, don't waste your time, I suppose you have better things to do! :p

hehe, I'm on one of those really really small Japanese notebooks, and the darn keys make spelling a challenge. I corrected before you got here. ;)

Try one of these rahul and let me know if either works:

virus scanner name ->" C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgw.exe "

virus scanner parameters -> /SE or /SE "%f"

avgw.exe /se would seem to be spot on from the Grisoft FAQs (others/0501) at http://www.grisoft.com/doc/42/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 (use IE and not firefox to view the page). The only difference is the AVG7 folder name.
