I am setting up a router for my home network (Belkin) and have my main system up and running with Win 98SE. But I cant get the second computer on.
For some reason when I run winipcfg I always have the same IP, even though I have it set up to obtain automatically, I have tried to release so I can renew but it will not release what is there.
Any help would really be appreciated,
THANKS

When you run WINIPCFG, you have to use the drop down menu to get to your ethernet card. There are usually several entries. For Example I have a PPP adapter and my ethernet adapter. You have to select your ethernet adapter and then choose release and renew.....

Thanks for the suggestion, but I had made sure the ethernet card was the one I was using and it still wouldnt let me release. Any other ideas?

Remove the card from device manager and allow windows to re-detect it and reinstall the driver.

Are you sure the card works?
Can you see the other computer in network neightborhood and can other computers see your computer???

The card works, I can use it to set up a network with a hub, but when I put in a router I cant get it to work. I have tried a Linkseys and curently have a Belkin.
I tried replacing the cable but that didnt help, I think I have another network card so I will try replacing the card.
The light on the network card is on and the light on the router is on showing there is a connection, but I cant find the other computer on the network or log into the utility menu of the router.

Hey thanks man, I never would have thought of switching cards as it worked with my old hub but that was the problem, put another card in and its all up and running.
Thanks for the suggestions!!!!
