Alright, at first my cd rom wouldnt open up so i switched around the IDE cables and got it to open up, i threw in my XP install disc and shut it. Looked up at my monitor at no picture.
I fooled around with it, even used my brothers monitor...nothing. I just put this computer together yesterday and today, there is no monitor hook up on the back of the case/mobo but i put it a Geforce 4 ti4200 and it has a place for one.
Any ideas?

I'm hungry.
Got any Kellog's System Specs? :D
Also what do you mean switched around? End for end? One for another?
Could you pass a sprinkling of more details too? Did you have picture at first and for how long?
Thanks.
(Edit) Of course try reseating cards and cables, maybe a BIOS clear later if neccessary but not yet... (Can you try your brothers card?)

Welcome to PCGuide!!
I didn't understand the last part of your post. Are you saying the monitor is not connected to the computer?? The connections are the first thing I would check, reseat your video card and make sure all connections on the mobo are solid.
Is the monitor showing anything at POST?? If it is ok at POST and not later, it could suggest a software problem.
Post back with more info and suggestions will flow.

okay, what i mean by switched around is that my cd rom wouldnt open so i just turned the IDE cables around and it worked. it was on pin 1 all the time but i just connected to opposite end to the mobo.
My specs are:
AMD Athlon 1600+ XP
256MB DDR Ram
GF4 Ti 4200 64MB DDR
Shuttle Ak3gt4 mobo (somethin like that)
Now, when i first installed everything, and first booted, the picture came up asking for a system disc, confused my brother slipped in the mobo disc and then a few seconds later the picture went away. then came the problem of the cd rom not coming out, then we were told to instead put in the Windows XP installation cd, thats when we got no picture. We took out the GF4, put in a very old card from my older computer and still got no picture.
What i mean by the monitor isnt in the computer is that without a video card in i see no place to put the monitor plug, it's hooked into the video card.
Ok, so you don't have onboard video....
Have you tried resetting the BIOS, by either using the Clear jumper or pulling the battery...whatever method is recommended in the motherboard manual?
Also, we need to know the actual motherboard...not "somethin like that....."
