Before I reformatted my 5 year old Time Computer (Windows98/1st version}, I copied the Folder which contained most of the originally installed applications:CABs etc. onto a CD-R disk. There was originally a very good typing application.
How can I find out if that exists on the CD-R to which I saved the folder with all the CABs. I would like to re-install it if possible.

Please can some one advise.

Thanks

Ray, did you copy the Typing Application from the Program Files Folder or did you actually copy the installation files of that application. If it was MavisBeacon then I'm pretty sure you will need the actuall install files and not the files that were setup by the installation - if you see what I mean.

Paul,
thanks for your usual quick response. I understand what you mean:::
there was a folder called "DISKPRO" where the original CAB files resided, the same as you might find Windows OEM in a certain directory.
I copied the lot across, but I've since had a glance with Winzip and there doesn't seem to be any sign of the application. It wasn't Mavis (which I still use on my teaching 486 in DOS) but much more sophisticated.
I just thought I might find a hint of what it was called. (Aren't you surprised at the extent of my memory (;>))= ?).

Thanks again but I'll get another copy, and I've learnt yet another lesson.

Very Grateful

Ray

If these were created by this DiskPro (http://www.e-mart.com/www/cnr.html) then perhaps they are recoverable. When you said cabs, all I could think of were the cab files made for M$ installations, but perhaps this software created them and can recover them too?

I've forgotten if you can search the contents of cab files in Win98 but no harm searching for any files called setup.* to give you some indication of where any setup files might be found.
