I am trying to put a driver for a modem and a sound card on my computer.I can get the driver from driverguide.com or whatever, but when i put the floppy in the computer and try to download it says "this drive does not contain software for your hardware device".Help!:confused:

if so, you will need to unzip it to a temp folder and then direct the install wizard there.

How do I unzip it?:confused: I don't know if this computer has a winzip or anything like that.:eek:

Assuming the driver is not zipped..and you can tell by looking at the file end if it is (should say "something.zip")..98 is often extremely contrary about accepting drivers in our experience. We usually need to "walk" the puter right to the file in question by using the Browse feature..and then keep clicking until you're right "at" the driver file. Even then, sometimes it doesn't want to accept the file without several tries at it. Did you look in the list of drivers included in your OS for your modem? There was a time that we used a driver included in 98 for a printer, and several monitors worked fine just using the generic drivers.

Are you going through Device Manager, and using the "updating" driver process?

I WILL GET THE WINZIP.IT IS WINDOWS 98 AND SOME OF THE DRIVERS I HAVE TRYED HAVE BEEN ZIPPED AND SOME HAVEN'T AND THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE ABOUT THE GENERIC DRIVER I WILL TRY THAT.WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES.:)

THE GENERIC DRIVER WORKED FOR THE MODEM,BUT NOT THE SOUND CARD,BUT I WILL GET IT.ANY OTHER ADVICE IS WELCOME.:cool:

Two suggestions:

1. Tell us what the sound card is and we may be able to help you find the proper drivers.

2. Please stop shouting (all CAPS is considered to be shouting online and is hard to read).

Sorry for the shouting.:) I was just excited that I finally got the modem to work.No harm intended.:D I also got the sound card finally.Thank all of you for all your help.;)
