win Xp Media Player: Missing Div 3 Codecs?

Hiya, running Win Xp and a Geforce 64Mb graphics card. Download some movies, (avi format) from the web, but Media Palyer wont run them telling me:

"The DIV3 codec is required to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help."

I click "web help", and the microsoft pages tells me the following,

"Missing Codec
This page coming soon.
Last Updated: Wednesday, September 4, 2002"

I have also downloaded Media Player version 9 (beta), but that doesnt solve my problems either.
