Hi Guys
I hope you can help a beginner.
I want to be able to connect to another PC using a VPN. I've been all the way thro' the connection wizard with no success.
Both PC's have a static IP addresses, both have Zone Alarm, but we've set up trusted sites. We're both on cable broadband.
IS there something we've missed???
When we do try to connect we get an error code 80?? wheat ever that means. It looks like it's tring to dial out but as we're on broadband we won't require this.

Please help:confused:

There is some info HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q161410&) that may be of some use even though it was written long before XP (which OSes are you both using).

You probably do need to tunnel through the internet using DUN, so is this a DUN error. Instead of a tel no you would put in an IP address or domain.

Some ISPs provide a PPTP server, in which case you would not have to connect using DUN; they should have info on this.

Can you connect without the firewall - just to ensure that is not part of the problem - and even though you would lose its security for as long as you were connected.

Using VPN and gets an 80 code error, usually means there is problem with your firewall. Disable the firewall and try the VPN. If that does not work, try to connect two system through a hub instead of Cable Modem. Also, contact ISP for known or configuration issue.

As an alternative, you might want to try a VNC connection...it doesn't have the overhead of VPN and is a bit easier to work with....+ it's free. You can get it here: http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
