I know nothing about Linux, someone else may be able to help with it...

For the beep codes, usually a beep code means you have a hardware problem, such as defective memory or video card, or faulty connection somewhere. Without knowing the exact beep code I can't interpret it, the best I can do is point you to some links with info so you can interpret it.

PC Guide Beep Codes (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/index.htm)
Error Codes (http://www.pctusa.com/pcerror.htm)
Beep Codes (http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml)

First thing to try is pull the video card and memory chips and reseat them. You might have to do this several times before you get good connections. Make sure you ground yourself on a bare metal spot on the chassis before touching any internal components to avoid static electricity. Also make sure the power is OFF, do not unplug anything inside the computer while it is running.
