View Full Version : Microsoft Word Won't Remember
I have just installed Microsoft Word 2000 onto my Win2K machine on the F: partition. I have turned of the "as you go" grammar and spelling checks as the red and green underlining just annoys me. I have also made visible the drawing and "tables and borders" toolbar because I use them frequently.
However when I have finished and I close down Word, it forgets all my settings so that when I restart Word at a later stage, I have to change all the features that I want and don't want.
How do I get Word 2000 to remember my preferences??
Thanks a lot.

All versions of MS Word that I have used (95, 97, XP) automatically save these settings on exit and restore them next time. I don't know of a way not to save them! These settings are store in the registry.
You might try re-running the MS Office installation. Is there a repair option?

I have Word 2000 on my laptop which I am not using right now. However, I think there is an option under Tools, Options to set to save on exit. I will try to remember to check when I use my laptop this evening.

If the "as you go" options are unchecked in Tools<>Options<>Spelling and Grammar and OK'd then these settings should be maintained on reopening the application; even if you use different .dot templates.
You could try pressing the shift key when closing Office 2000 as this sometimes jogs Office to remember settings like Window Size; but you may have to try reinstalling the original setup configuration from AddRemove Programs or by autorunning the install CD.
