Are there any certian hardware (video card) requirements to do video editing or is it a software thing. Also does most video editing software came with a card or do you use a usb or a firewire for input???

And yes I don't know my @$$ from my elbow.

Any info on system set up for this would be helpful. I'm aware of the obvious (cpu, hard drice size etc.)

does anyone have a software recommendation??

Thanks

Stevo

Most good quality video cards can be used for editing, but not all of them have the needed features like video in/capture, or the needed ports for output to transfer the finshed product to something other than the hard drive.

ATI has a line of cards that do have the needed features and are also pretty good gaming cards. They usually come with some sort of of software for editing (probably not as full featured as retail software packages) and usually DVD software too (for playback).

Input more often depends on the source you are taking it from than the software you are using....many video cameras have an S-video out so you would need a video card with an S-video input, for example. Of course if your devices have USB or firewire capabilities the software you use will need to support those too. And no, most often the software doesn't come with a card (input card), although some complete editing packages are available...

There are a couple of people who frequent here who are a little more into editing, so hang tight and they drop a few more hints and suggestions.....
