I'm having trouble actually booting up my other computer. After the scandisk, it will stall on this blue screen with 'checking registry files' at the top. If I exit out of the scandisk, It stalls on the Windows98 startup screen, with the clouds.

Have you tried to boot into Safe Mode? If not, I would try that and run whatever diagnostics you have to see if you can find out what it happening. I would also run a deep virus scan and spyware scan.

Good luck,
Budfred

Have you tryed to restore your reg If you didnt you can by restart and pressing f8 and at the prompt type scanreg/fix And if that dont work try to restore it back to a earlier time but remember if you do dont go back to far because what programs that you installed will be gone. And If you dont have any luck on them restore your master boot record

If from F8 you get to a command prompt you could sequentially try: (you may need your Win98 install disk for sfc; have sfc search for bad or missing files)

scandisk
sfc
scanreg /fix
scanreg /opt

Thanks everyone for their replies.

The scanreg/fix seems to have fixed everything. Thanks again!
