my windows 2000 don't boot up it only goes to verifying pool .... then it hangs and when i'm about to back up my files since i can't get it fix even in the win2k setup disk. so i setup my backup HDD then when i plug in my pc the powersupply fuse exploded (damaged maybe, the wire inside it bursted) without turning my pc [on], at first i was suspected the powersupply fuse who has a problem but when i changed it and as i plug in again same thing happened. can you help me about this? if anyone of you has this problem before can you share your solution please..
and also what is the symptoms of static electrified MoBo. because everytime i boot my pc it show CMOS checksum Error: Default loaded and when you set it up again when you unplug after 20-30 minutes Checksum again.
thanks
Were you trying to plug the drive in with the power on?
I sure hope not...the least you may have done is fry your power supply. If the fuse keeps blowing then I would start with replacing the power supply, be something is shorted out......
Also the battery could be the cause of the loss of BIOS settings.......

I have done the battery thing but still nothing... and in my power supply frying problem i turn off my pc and even unplugged it before putting my drive. Just when i started to plug my power chord again went "boom" - fuse gone (i'm haven't pushed the power button the CPU yet). can this event affect my HDD, FDD, CDD, MoBO?

Then try plugging it in. If it blows another fuse TRASH it!!! Don't try to use it again.
As for the condition of your other items you will have to see as you go once you have a new power supply/case.

IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT THE MOTHERBOARD CAN DESTROY THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT? COZ I LOST 2 PSU WITHIN 2 MOS.
Yes, but not all that common......more likely overloading it, overloading the circuit it is on, really cheap power suply, short in the case pwoer switch.....
Detail some systems specs including ALL drives, fans, etc and what size poer supply.

I'm betting you have a short somewhere. The power supply shouldn't be getting overwhelmed by that configuration.

i guess i have to pull out all components, even the MoBo to see if there is. Thanks guys i learn alot from you...
btw...what is the disadvantage of having a problem in Checksum error (since i used to it... for now i guess)? in performance? in hardware?
i have changed my battery, it's all begun when i forgot my cmos password and i take off the coin-size-batt for 20 sec. of course my pc is off and unplug. (silly me, not reading the manual for the clear jumper.) after that checksum:error-all-the-time.
OK if you pulled the battery to disable your password and never reset the BIOS to default values.....you would get a checksum error until you do.

I'm with Budfred - you have a short somewhere.
Disconnect the power supply from the MB, floppy, HD and see if it still blows the fuse. If not try plugging stuff back in one at a time. My guess is that your backup HD is causing the problem - since this started when you tried to use it. Maybe the circuit board for the HD was damaged when you had it out of the box.

hi guys, i pulled out all the components, cables, etc. and i found out that my FDD holder was not properly attached... and as long as i got my new PSU i will try it... wish me luck, hehehe... coz i'm being traumatized with the fuse thing..hope that my MoBo, HDD and DVD is okey :(
