Ok, so i want to connect my computer up, through my stereo simple.. (yeah right)..

I'm sick of burning cd's all the time, and just thought it would be easier if i played them from my computer, through my stereo.

What i thought, was i might need to buy a PCI card that allows cables to be connected up through the computer into the stereo through the AUX lead?.. is this possible?..

If not, how do i go about this?...

Thanks

Chiz

What you need is a simple stero 1/8" plug (like on small headphones) that converts to seperate AUX left and right plugs to go into your stero - there usually color coded at the end - either Red & Black/White) - these are quite comon from your local Radio Shack.
Provided you dont turn your volume up on the PC (say no more than 3/4) too much.
Simply plug it into your line out or head phone out (on the sound card) and run it into the stero left & right jacks.
If its a PA system you may need to use a different plug.

I have been doing it this way for years and it works fine.
If you get distortion or crackling etc... turn the volume down on the PC (this is not a good thing, so be warned).
Also I think its a good idea to turn the amp off when you restart the PC.

Hope this helps,

Olie

Thank you.. and when you do actually turn it up on your stereo, is it as loud as the stereo is normally?, if your listening to something on your computer.. you know what i mean! lol.

It depends on the soundcard, usually its a little quieter than say a CD player, but you shouldnt have any problems really.

Actually it's an 1/8 inch male stereo plug on one end to two RCA male jacks on the other. Auxiliary input is the best channel to use as it has tone capabilities and strong signals won't distort it, to a degree. What can even take more is your tape player loop (tape in/ tape out). It withstands the strongest signal without distortion compared to the rest of the inputs. You would use your pc's line out and your home entertainment's tape in.

You could also use just a power amp and speakers intended for P.A. systems with 1/8 inch male to 1/4 inch males instead. Yeah, speakers you can use for dining tables! For a party of four :D What? What'd you say? What? :D

You'll have to speak up 'cause the music AIN'T turnin' down!

I am following this topic with interest and am going to try to feed my signal from PC to stereo. Problem is my PC is UPSTAIRS and stereo is down.....do they make cables long enough? I would need about 20-25 ft. OR would it be easier to look into some kind of local "wireless" setup?
Do they work well?:)

Longer than about 10 feet and you will probably start experiencing some signal loss, unless you go with something like hi-grade Monster Patch cables....and they will only do about 15 feet. One of the wireless or "use the house wiring" setups might be better than trying a direct run.
