Hello all.

I know that screen savers are no longer necessary with modern monitors, but could someone guide me a step further so that I can show my grandchildren the correct way to optimise the ON/OFF states of the computer. In most cases there are 3 choices, and I'm not sure about the Standby as opposed to HDD off and system standby etc..

Thanks for any help.

The basic differences are just degrees of power and hardware conservation, speeds of "reawakening", what events will reawaken and whether or not any work is saved. Hibernation is the deepest "sleep" (sic) (if supported) but saves your work and turns the computer off; when it is turned on again it should start-up faster because the settings were saved.
