After format I have lost my printer. I inserted lexmark install disk and chose install. I recieved a"insufficient memory" error. I have 256 RAM and a ton of hard drive space. I haven't changed my cache settings and have no idea why this program won't install. Contacted Lexmark and was told it was a windows problem but can't figure it out. I have installed all other program disks with no problem. HELP

Hi. Which OS and is it the same one as before. Could be a drivers problem.

You could try just adding a new printer if your one is listed by the OS in its hardware wizard.

Same OS, XP. I went to printer options and it showed the Lexmark but in properyies it showed 0 size. Downloaded driver but was instructed no printer to install to. I also checked progam files and did a search which found no printer or Lexmark files or programs.

You might want to delete printer drivers in Add/Remove software and in Device Manager, make sure you printer is properly connected to the computer and turned on, reboot and reinstall drivers when windoze finds the printer. Or, do the first steps, reboot without turning on the printer and use Add Printer to reinstall the software.

Good luck,
Budfred

If this is one of those USB lexmark printers.
First Unlug the USB cable.
Go Into printers from the start menu and remove the Lexmark ( reboot if needed)

Then use CTRL-ALT-DEL to view and shutdown All unneeded programs.
Then Install the printer drivers.
Follow the On screen prompts.
Do NOT connect the Printer USB cable till the install program asks for it

Once it asks for the Cable connect it and the system should finish installing and configuration

The Lex mark software has an available driver update on line.
If you don’t have the latest version grab it and install that.

Good Luck. Lexmark printers are one of the reasons I learned to hate USB

This printer (lexmark Z22) is not USB. I have tried shutting down all running processes with and without printer connected.I even tried in safe mode, again with and without cable. After losing a brand new color cartridge, I cleaned it manuully, as well as through auto head cleaner, then I lost talking feature (joke). I am to the point,of just upgrading. Since this printer came as a cheap addon with system, and Lexmark support telling me it was a Windows problem without even listening to me about trying all the system fixes provided. I believe prices of better printers of better quality are now to a point I can afford and I want to start photo coping without my paper rolling out rather than flat. I'm rambling so I'll just say rather than spending anymore time with junk, I'd rather have advice on a new printer.

To tell the truth I've been watching the Mags and ratings but I just really need the most bang for the buck.

Probably not relevant - but:-

Lexmark (http://www.lexmark.com/Canada/printers/inkjet/Z22/) don't mention XP as supporting the Z22

though

MS HCL (http://www.microsoft.com/hwdq/hcl/search.asp) lists it for XP (though for a Compaq it specifically lists the z32 though not the z22)

.. and then again it was working before the format!

I have had a number of different printers and I decided to go with an HP 932C because it was top rated at the time, it was fairly cheap, and the cost of printing per page is lower than most. I have had no compatibility problems and it is so quiet printing that I hardly notice it. It is not the fastest around, but probably faster than the Lexmark you have now. It does ok with photos and good with general printing. You could probably find the same model even cheaper now since it is not one of the latest or you could get a more recent HP. Last time I looked, HP was generally the leader in less cost per page of printing.

It turns out the printer CD is only compatable with Windows 95/98. Updated driver can't install because it has no printer application to install to. "Catch 22" Printer worked before reformat because application was installed and excepted new driver.

I agree with your suggestion on a new printer. I have narrowed my choices down to:
Canon S750 - about $130.00
Epson C80 - about $125.00
HP 940C - about $110.00
HP 950c - about $135.00
HP 932c - about $130.00
Prices courtesy of Pricewatch.com (includes shipping)

If anyone thinks any of these is better than the other let me know.
They are all about the same price.I would like the one that prints the flatest for photo printing.
