hi there

i recently unstalled a few programs that i don't need anymore from my computer. After unstalling the programs, i notice while surfing on the internet, if i click on a certain link, the page doesn't load up properly, ie the page just trys and load, but nothing happens. if i also right click any link and go to open link in new windows, it does the same thing.

can someone out there who has the knowledge please help me, thank you.

Welcome to the PCGuide Discussion Forums.

Sounds like the browsing file associations have been messed up. You can probably restore them by going to IE<>Toole<>Options<>Programs and click on Reset Web Settings. Also check the box that IE should check that it is the default browser.

There are other fixes too but if this doesn't work please post back which OS you are using and which verion of IE (presuming that is the browser you are using). Also, have you upgraded or uninstalled any versions of IE during your uninstalling party. :)

hi there

thanks for your reply, but the situation still hasn't changed. i am using windows 98, IE version 6, and the only thing i installed was IE 6, because i thought it would have been a browser problem.

i hope this helps you more in helping me, thanks.

Or just certain ones? Possibly dead links?

Are your safeguards set too high? As in content and security settings or firewall levels?

Do you remmember what you uninstalled?

hi

i'm sure it's not dead links, because if i click on the members tab, for example it would open on the same page, but if i right click and went to open link in new window nothing seems to happen, but it seems to be loading and thats it.

i'm not sure if my security settings or firewall levels are to high, if they were, what is the minimal settings by the way?

sorry but can't remember what i uninstalled.

Sounds like the old upgrade to IE6 "bug" caused by having incompatible dll files created by various combinations of uprading/uninstalling etc.

The most common fix is to goto the Run Command from the Start Button and type and enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll

There are about 6 other related dlls that may also need to have the same command run on them; cant find them right now.

Maybe http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm will help you out if the above fails.
