Hello guys, I have a problem with sound card or so it seems. I installed Windows XP recetly. (I had windows ME before). Now, I wanted to put some music in my PC and it says that there is no sound card hardware. I suppose it's not recognizing it, is that because I have to install the driver for the sound card separately? I did that but still it gives me the same error message that there is not sound hardaware. What can I do??

go into Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and look see if your sound card is listed or if there are any "!" at the side of the sound card, if no card is listed, make sure the sound card is seated firmly in the PCI slot, you mite also have to go to the sound card makers web site and download the winXP virsion of the drivers for your card. have you disabled the onboard sound on the motherboard?

Did you upgrade from ME or did you do a fresh install of XP?

Check whether your sound card is compatible with Windows XP.

I don't know what kind of system u have. but i just went though setting up a HP after the hard drive crashed. I had to install the sound driver. make sure u have the correct one and also make sure u don't have any our sound cards drivers listed ..(even though i had the correct driver for my sound card the others were confusing it) i had to remove all sound card drivers and once i did that went to add new hardware and went through that process and all worked fine. now i only see one driver
