Just a couple of routine questions, to allay my apprehensions. I want to install XP on my pc which is currently running on Win 98.
1. Can I install over the Windows 98 OS, or do I have to format and install.
2. Are there any bugs/pitfalls that I must be aware of
3. Should things go south, and want to re-install 98, I guess I then need to format and install.
thx

I would suggest doing a clean install.and decide wheather you want Fat or Ntfs file system.
2. Are there any bugs/pitfalls that I must be aware of
Pit falls and bugs would be not doing a fresh install.
3. Should things go south, and want to re-install 98, I guess I then need to format and install.
Yes, but things should go smooth as long as your system can handle XP and you do a clean install.
Yes you can run the win98-winXP upgrade and install over win98.
It even allows you to uninstall if you do this.
If you have lots of available disk space you should not have any problem..
From Personal experience.
I’ve found it best to Back up your Data.
Format and reinstall ( Clean install) leave any and all the old bugs behind
You can always reinstall win98 if you see a need to.
If you have the available disk space think about dual booting– ( Install Both win98 and XP)
