When starting XP my system will not preform unless I go
to the Windows task manager and end the "svchost.exe
network service" process. Then everything loads and runs
fine. All I seem to need is the "svchost.exe local
service" process. Is there a way to disable this process
So I don't have to do it after every startup? I see programs
that are added to the task manager from the startup menu so there
must be a way to remove, huh?

I don't know what that program is, but I would wonder if it is legit. Do you run Spyware, Adware and Virus scans? If you haven't, you may want to do so.

As a second alternative, I think XP still has msconfig, so I would run that, go to the Startup tab and deselect the program in question. Choose Selective Startup and run your system. This should prevent the program from trying to load if it is legit.

Here's a couple of interesting links that may help you out: (found on google.com)

http://www.igknighttec.com/Windows/WindowsXP/svchost_exe.php

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q250320&

Moderator Edit:Please be careful of the first link especially if you run Linux and don't have Macromedia Flash installed. I just had to X-Kill my browser to stop 34 pop up windows and more on the way. The site has at least 22 flash objects embedded, and one or more pop-up windows for the Flash download for each. It almost totally locked up my system before I finally X-Killed it.

VISIT THE SITE AT YOUR OWN RISK

I strongly considered removing the link entirely, any site that's formatted that crappy can't be a decent tech support site...

My tasklist is not recognized as command in Windows xp. I get command line response "Tasklist is not recognized as an internal or external command". I read a download is available from Microsoft to fix this but can't find it. I am having problem with a svchost process using all of my resources, and can't backtrack problem without locating it.

No spyware and the process is generated by Microsoft. I would provide more info but in order to get it I have to end the process that I need to check because it's using 100% of my CPU and system locks. (catch 22)

Tasklist is not included in XP Home......it will work in Home, if you can find it somewhere...
