Hi guys-
Thought of putting this in the Internet forum but it's really a windowsXP question.

Maybe I'm missing something simple but here goes...

If my cable modem goes down due to an outage at my ISP or whatever, (which it does on occassion but not too often), I cannot figure out a way to re-establish a connection without re-booting.
In other words, after my modem comes back up and all lights are back on (send, receive, online etc.), I can't get back online until I reboot.

In the older versions of windows It seems to me I could go to "connections" in internet options and simply hit the refresh button to get connected again. No such option in XP.

I've tried toggling between (unchecking and rechecking) "auto detect settings" but that doesn't do it.
Just a mild irritation, but one none the less.

Or maybe someone could just refresh my memory on how to do a quick re-start without the whole bios thing etc.
I think that would work too.
I'll be gone today but will check back in later.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
;)

Thanks for the reply Jiggy...Tried that, no dice.
It's not that big a deal to restart on those rare occasions my modem goes down, just can't help but think there is a faster way.

I think unplugging the coax then screwing it back on works but that's almost as much of a pain as re-booting...Oh well.

when rebooting if you hold down the shift key as you click on the restart button it reboots without turning the power off, i think. i use it.
