Hi everyone,
I installed Win 2000 on my computer yesterday. I was running 98 before that.
One thing I didn't know what that lots of data was going to be lost, including my address book from outlook!! Is there any way I can recover that???

I had Office 2000 installed on there that I can't run anymore either... It tells me that the application must be installed... please install!! blah blah blah. Well I don't have the CD anymore. Does that mean I lost it? :(

Thank you...

1: Did you backup?
A: Yes. Proceed to next question. :)
B: No. Proceed to last line.

2: Did you install 2000 over 98 without formatting?
A: Yes. Proceed to next question.
B: No. Proceed to last line.

3: Can you still see the shortcuts to Word 2000 and other programs you 'had'?
A: Yes. I would try Windows Explorer and see if the files can be accessed that way. Or put the drive into another pc (with 98) as a second drive and see if it can be read that way. And proceed to next question.
B: No. Proceed to last line.

4: Do you have all or any softwares to reinstall? :p
A: Yes. Then all is not lost.
B: No. Proceed to last line.

:o
Last line: Make a sign out of regular printer paper in the biggest font you can use to just fit these two words onto the paper. Then apply with cellophane tape to your back:
Kick

It sounds like you did an upgrade rather than a clean install or a dual boot. Can you confirm this and whether you installed it as FAT or NTFS?

If it was an upgrade:-

(1) Then I'm surprised that it didn't prompt you for the Office2000 CD during the install so that it could reconfigure it's windows settings; sounds like it is now doing the same thing belatedly.

(2) Afraid you will need an Office2000 install CD to reconfigure its applications for Win2K - however the original data files should still be there. Search your drive(s)? for *.pst and *.pab and see if you come up with any results. If you can find your original .pst or .pab file(s) then these can be backed up and the data from your contacts or your address book etc can be recovered. Actually running the Office Programs is however another matter.

If you can find these files then you might also be able to import the contacts etc into OE, which uses .wab (windows address book).
