Hello: I replaced the power supply on a Acer Aspire computer system becuase the fan on the old power supply had quit working. Before I replaced it the switch on the front of the case would hardly shut the computer off. I had to press it really hard several times before I could get it to shut off. After I replaced the power supply I plugged in the power cord, and nothing came on. There was just a hissing sound. I unplugged it, disconnected the power connectors, and reconnected them, and tried it again. Now all that happens it that the hard drive spins up, and the led on the front of the case is on but there is no display, and no beep is herd. I can't shut it off by the switch on the front of the case. I can only turn it on and off by unplugging it. My question is, is there a jumper or something that needs to be reset, or is the switch on the front causing all the problem, or did I burn something up. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!
Thanks

I don't know if you found a solution already, but just in case, make sure your IDE cable didn't come loose from the HD. Also, you can try reseating the CPU. I had a strange case of replacing the fan on my CPU and the system wouldn't post. I reseated the CPU and everything started working normally.

I am still having problems and I am very confused. I tried the new power supply I recieved from Acer in another computer that is the same model, and it didn't work in that one either. So I put the old power supplies back in both systems, and both of them boot up and work. I called Acer and they sent me another power supply because I thought I had a defective one. I recieved that one and installed it, and it doesn't work either. I don't know why the old one will work but neither of the new ones will work. Am I doing something wrong?

I am still having problems with this machine. I tried the new power supply in another Acer Aspire, and it didn't work in there either. I put the old power supply back in the machine and it boots up ok, only the fan on the power supply doesn't work. I called Acer and they sent out another power supply, but it doesn't work either. So to say it in short, the old one still powers up the system but neither of the new ones do. They look the same size and have the same connectors on them. Can someone please give me a clue as to what is going on?

I'd say you either have:
Two dud PS's in a row --- Unlikely, or...
A faulty/worn out power button/switch --- Most likely, and hard to fix. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Is the 110V (115V)/ 220V (230V) switch set at the 110V setting?
Sometimes they come from the factory at the wrong setting or in-between the settings.
