So far I seem to be the only one complaining of a problem and I use Netscape 4.8. I have been using this for a while and the problem just seemed to start in the last week, so it doesn't seem to be caused by the browser.
Also, I am using IE 6 at work and I believe it has happened here too.
I will confirm that if it happens again.

Ok, I actually "logged off" for the first time ever, this past weekend. Got the log off message and re-entry screen. Never went back. Shutdown.(Eventho I'm on cable, I still unplug every night.)
When I got back up, my background was totally gone and my icons lined up. (Aaarrrgh.)
IE5.5 - never had the patience to get a clean install of 6.
W98se - my favorite all purpose os (I'm not a gamer.)
I immediately went to pc-cillin - got a clean bill. (Plus I keep Norton updated weekly.)

If I get an email regarding a reply, and then link to PCGUIDE from the email, my cookie "date last visited" is updated. Subsequently, when I later come to PCG, my "new posts" are not properly flagged.
Since I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, I did not vote.
Using IE 5.5, SP2 and WIN95
Tommy,
One thing to understand.....any time you come to the site, whtehr directly or through a link in an email message it will activate the cookie and update your "last visited" time. So it is actually working properly, just not the way you would like it. In cases like that there is nothing that can be done......
Budfred.....
After doing a little checking I found you may have the worst possible setup, both NS4.x and IE6 have a history of cookie problems with this software.....it seems that IE6 has a habit of corrupting the cookie more often than any other browser. And NS4.x just has a problem of keeping track of it...... In the IE6 case you need to manually remove the existing cookie, blow out the index.dat file...etc. For NS, you need to delete it and then log in from the main page and hopefully it will keep track of it.
Everyone,
Most of the cookie problems are actually on your end. IF you do have a problem the best bet would be to manually remove the cookie and erase the index file (for all versions of IE). In 9x (not ME unless you ewant to boot to a 98 bootdisk) the easiest way to erase the index is to do it from DOS or use Spider (http://www.fsm.nl/ward/) in 2k and XP probably logged in as admin and remove it from the user profile. Other browsers don't use the index.dat so removing the cookie from in the preferences should do it.

Thanks mjc,
I actually delete my cookies regularly, but select out the PCGuide cookie to save, looks like I may need to delete it too. The odd thing is that it works most of the time, but then suddenly won't work, even though I have done nothing different on this end for either connection. It hasn't happened for a few days, so maybe it has cleared up again.

From the descriptions I've read that is exactly how it works with NS4.x...it "loses track" of the current one and after you get a new one it works fine for a while.
There are also some ways of writing the cookie that NS likes better, but overall NS4.x is a prety poor performer when it comes to cookies, the bright side is it makes it more difficult to build a profile using cookies if the browser keeps losing them....

"Only one problem",
"Not ENOUGH cookies!"
I want to get to go... get to go to SESAME STREE,,, OH, high guys. I don't seem to have a prob at this site with cookies as all seems to be 'tasting' fine. Although I haven't used the 'view new posts' feaure in some time (I kinda like looking in the relevant forum better).
But I have a question about a UBB site I frequent that is supposed to tell me how many new posts per thread since my last visit. I go to the site, get caught up on most posts but when I return another day it shows as if I have only read the opening post and the remainder are unread again. So it ALWAYS shows new posts. I feel it's a site problem as it is the ONLY one I have the prob with.
I deleate my cookies, TIF's and History but it still happens.
mjc, Are you saying Spider will do it? (It's hard to tell if you were saying if it was for 9x or NT.) Or do I need to edit my registry? I had Spider installed prior to the last format, stuck it in the cookie jar and... 'burp', well the rest is history
IE 5.5 and if it ain't broke... (Well hobbling along at least  )
Yes, Spider will definitely do it in 9x and NT, but maybe in 2k and XP....it should but since it wasn't written specifically for them, it may have problems.
