I have a Maxvision 4200 Windows NT workstation. It has a scsi hard drive, and it locks up after displaying "Starting SCAM protocol". I know it has something to do with the scsi, but I don't know why it's locking up. I can hit control-alt-del, and it starts to reboot, but it just does the same thing.

The SCAM protocol assigns SCSI ID numbers dynamically and resolves any SCSI ID conflicts when you start your computer. If all the devices on your SCSI bus support the SCAM protocol, you don't need to manually assign unique SCSI ID numbers.

However, if the SCSI HD is an older one, then it may not support SCAM.
If this is the case, then its SCSI ID number has to be manually assigned.
Check your computer's, MB's, or SCSI card's documentation on how to do this.

It's also possible that the HD or its cable is defective.
