Hi,

I think this priblem might've faced most of you, that is, when a windows with " This program made an illegal operation....", this apears mostly when one of office applications is runnig and also other installed app. like corel and so, some say it's a memory problem but when I tried to replce it nothing changed even after format. another one said its a CPU-cooling problem. If so changing the cooling fan would be enough,

Thanks ,
Ruba

Very rarely (if ever) is the "Illegal operation..." message caused by hardware. It's all software! Sometimes a driver issue, sometimes a registry error (especially if someone's been pokin around down there), sometimes certain programs don't co-exist well, but mostly it's just a program bug.

You happened to do something on your particular system that wasn't specifically tested and you got an error. Program crashes, unsaved data is lost, and much cursing commences! :p Of course, this isn't something that's supposed to happen every half hour, so if you think it's happening quite often, there may be a bigger issue involved such as an incorrect software configuration. Some large programs with many parts/patches/updates/etc. need to be installed in a certain order.

These are just places to start, tho, someone else will likely come along to answer more questions. Does this happen a lot with a specific program or are you just talking in general? You aren't running Win95 or WinME, are you?

If you click on the details button on the 'Illegal Operation' box, the first line should read something like 'spooler32.dll caused a page fault in module something...'. This can be useful in pinpointing the problem, especially if you do a search with that line on support.microsoft.com

Practical example: in this example spooler32 indicates the print spooler which may be caused by a problem with the printer drivers.

I looked around the Microsoft Knowledge base and this is what it says:

This behavior can occur if the protected mode (32-bit) drivers for some of the storage devices installed in your computer are disabled. The installation programs for the programs listed at the beginning of this article require protected mode (32-bit) Windows file system drivers.

you can click here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q175703&LN=EN-US) for a more detailed report on it.

Hope this helps....:(
