Wonder if anyone can help, or has any ideas. I am an AOL user. When I try to use Windows Update, I have the following message displayed, after the "please wait" box:
I Explore
This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down. If the problem persists contact the program vendor.
If anybody can help, I'd be very grateful, Thanks.

Hi,
Your problem has nothing to do with AOL. It's an Internet Explorer browser problem. What version do you have? What OS are you running?
The following advice may help if you have WIN98SE. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/SystemInformation/Tools and run the Internet Explorer repair tool. See if that helps.
Otherwise, you may consider upgrading your Internet Explorer browser. I am not sure if the above repair tool is available in first edition WIN98 or WIN95. Post back with some more details as requested above and somebody should be able to help. If you have the repair tool, run that first.
Cheers,

[Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. My Os is Windows 98SE. Tried your solution, and got as far as system information/tools, but where is the internet explorer repair tool? Can't find I'm afraid. Perhaps it's me, but can't see it.

Another, or maybe the only, way to access it is from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x and Internet Tools -> remove (a pop-up box will appear) -> select the Repair button.......
