New Install Revisited

Several weeks ago I posted for the first time my problem with assembling a new computer from a Computer Geeks kit. Basically, I could not get it to boot or even to do a POST. The CPU fan and Case fans work fine but the screen is blank and the rest of the system is dead as a door nail.

I received several good suggestions from the forum such as checking the video card connection; RAM and CPU seated properly; removing the mobo from the case an setting it up on the table top. All great suggestions but no success. I Contacted the Geek's service and they agreed to take the board back, test it and replace if necessary. Of course, it tested fine and it as sent back.

I tried reinstall and had the same results. Before getting back to the Geeks, is there anything else that I should try?

Specifications:
AMD K7 500mhz Processor (have also tried a 750mhz that I have)
ACorp 7VIA71A Mobo
Kingston Value RAM 128MB PC133
Diamond Monster AGP Video Card 16MB
ATX Case w/300 watt AMD Approved PS
2GB Maxtor hard drive
Goldstar 16X CD ROM Drive
3.5 Floppy
Note - Each of these components was tried in other systems I own and each worked flawlessly, so I am confident each is functional.

According to the Acorp website, the Factory’s JP1 was incorrectly set at 107Mhz. The correct setting should be 100Mhz. Remove Pin D from JP1 if it is there. You can find this information at their site;

Thank you for your assistance. I can finally report success with this assembly.

TJ - you advice got me calmed down and back to thinking clearly.

Danleff - appreciate your information but my board was setup properly.

I went back and retraced each step and still no success. I made another call to the Computer Geeks and talked with a knowledgeable tech rep who was familiar with the board. He explained that the retention brackets packaged with the board sometimes would interfere with the CPU seating properly. He suggested removing them totally and trying it again. It worked! I am a bit concerned that the CPU is not totally secure but I will worry about that later.
