I have one big problem in my computer. It hangs or freezes all of sudden w/o any errors or warnings.

I had completey eliminated the possibility of any software creating this problem, by formatting the hard-disk and loading fresh win98-se OS with minimal confguration. I now suspect only the hardware is creating the problem.

Can somebody help me what needs to be checked/corrected or replaced in order to solve this "freeze" problem

Welcome to PCGuide!!

The first thing I would do is test the RAM. You can do this by downloading and running a RAM tester software (one called MemDoc or DocMem, I forget, has had good press here lately) or by removing all but one stick of RAM and running to see if the problem happens again. If it doesn't try a different stick of RAM and so on. There are a number of other options, but I would start with the RAM. Also, check to make sure all your fans are working and monitor the heat if you can. Post back with more info about your system if you need more help.

Good luck,
