What is "power good"

Can anyone please tell me what is the function of the orange power good wire from a PC power supply to the mainboard. What is it's output in volts and it's amperage ?

The POWER GOOD signal tells the timer IC that the boltages from the power supply are valid and this forces the CPU to start processing.....it takes from 1/10 to 1/2 sec to do this.
