i've got a bit of an odd problem with my workstaion at my office. for some reason i cannot access any http sites on either the internet or my office intranet. i can however get to https site without a problem and have no problem accessing other external network resources. when i try to access a http site, my browser searches for a while and then displays a "page could not be displayed" error message. this is not brower specific either since i have the same issue with IE and Netscape. i could see this making sense if it were the other way around but that's not the case. no one else in the building is having a problem and the dns server is up and running, so it seems to be an issue with my pc. i just inherited it so i have no idea how it was configured before it got to me. anyone seen this type of behavior before? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Your security settings may be set to maximum and that could block many sites. You should be able to check this in the browser settings or ask the system administrator.

i've gone over the security settings on both IE and Netscape a couple times and set every zone to the lowest security possible but still nothing. what's so wierd about this is that normally your security preferences will block access to secure HTTPS sites. however i can get to those just fine, its the non-secure HTTP sites that i can't access. ????

You should talk to your network admin. HTTPS runs on port 443, http runs on port 80 which might help to explain your problem. ( port 80 access might be blocked for some reason. )

Normally, an admin will rebuild a computer before passing it to another user to avoid this type of problem. OH well......

Good Luck :)
