Can someone offer some suggestions? For some unknown reason my computer will freeze up. This freeze up will last from ten to twenty seconds and then unfreeze. It does this with no software loaded or it does it with lots of software loaded. I have taken it to the local Gateway Computer Repair Shop three times. Each time they replace the hard drive and tell me to try it again. And each time it continues to freeze up.
Please help.

Hi Josephb175,
Since you have already taken it back to the repair shop (I hope you have only paid for one repair - is it under warranty?) take it back. Either way, they should make it right. Have them show you that it works. Note how they connect the system. Are you using a power strip/surge protector?
Let us know how you make out.

Humm...well it sounds like to me it is possible that your resources are running out, you may have too many programs running on boot. Click Start - Run.. - type msconfig - click OK.
Click Advanced Tab, Uncheck every program except power management, taskmon. Click OK, restart your computer. See how it runs then. If still no go, it could be power management, Click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Power Management - Change Scheme to Always on, Click OK, restart the computer.
If it still doesn't work, RAM could be a suspect to problems as well.

Seems to be a problem with that last set of recommendations.
I think the first part should instead read:
Click Start > Run, type msconfig in the Open box, click OK.
Click the Startup tab and clear all check boxes except System Tray.
You don't need the Task Monitor running to troubleshoot.
Be careful -- this may disable any virus-checking software you have.
You should always state which version of Windows you are running. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
