I have an older system I bought off of ebay. It is an IBM case, with a 100mHz CPU, 850 MB HDD, 16MB EDO RAM. I loaned it to a friend and it was booting up to Windows 95, My friend, (a complete and total idiot) decided to start exchanging HDD, modems and CD ROM's. When I got the system back, it was gutted. I put everything back together and turned it on only to find that nothing (and I mean NOTHING) happened. It acts as though it isn't getting power, but I used another PS and got the same result. I tried using a different cable to the PS and got the same results. The power supply has two cables that go to the mother board, one to the 3.5 floppy, and 5 peripheral cables. Could this be a bum board? If so, how do I tell the difference between an ATX and an AT board?

Welcome, outlaw! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
IBM has a pretty decent web site. If you get the model
and serial #'s off the nameplate and go there, you may
be able to download a manual or spec sheet. www.ibm.com (http://www.ibm.com)
Look in the Support and Downloads section.
You may just have some connections hooked up wrong.

theoutlaw2001,
"The power supply has two cables that go to the mother board"
Make sure you have the P8 (or 1) & P9 (or 2) connecters hooked up properly. The two red wires on each cable should be in the middle.

Thanks for your help. I went to the IBM site and used their trouble shooting guide and found that my riser card was causing the whole problem. When I remove it, it boots up just fine. Now I have to find a riser card. Any help would be usefull and appreciated.

Try a Google search on 'IBM riser card'.
