win 2000 install?

Hi my win2000 cd wont autorun infact nothing autoruns as my win 98 cd wont either! and the files on my floppys are currupted i can access the cdrom through dos but when i type in setup it says this program cannot run in dos mode is there another way to install win2000 without the floppys and not in dos? Any ideas?

Hit the Del key (or whatever key is needed) to enter Setup when the computer is first booting up. Once in Setup, click on Advanced BIOS Setup, I think. Look for a line item that says something like Boot Sequence. Change the first boot device to CD-ROM.

Insert the Win2000 CD in the CD-ROM. Save and Exit from BIOS setup. The system should now boot from the CD and you're off and running. Just follow the prompts.

You can also try this...

Using the win98 boot disk type d:\i386\winnt.exe (if d: is your cd-rom drive) and press enter. Should get you going. :)

Are you trying to boot from cd or autorun cds whenever inserted?

If the later, your autorun may be disabled. You can check this by:

At your desktop, right-click my computer and choose properties/device manager. Click the plus sign next to cd-rom, then highlight your actual (cd) device. Choose properties/settings and check the auto insert notification.

Sorry i apoligise for not explaining enough but my pc has been formatted so i dont actually have an o/s on it at the moment also the computer in question is an old compaq presario 4118 and for some reason not known to me doesnt have a bios it was never there before i formatted it, I dont know if this certain computer comes with it or not?
If anyone knows anything about the compaq series please help!

A number of older Compaqs kept the setup program for the BIOS on the hard drive.....so if you wiped out the partition that had the program on you lost the ability to make changes to the BIOS. You will need to look around on the Compaq site for the proper setup utility for your model....
