my brother got a high spec puter from Evesham (http://www.evesham.com/default.asp?e=&td=1) in Nottingham, he got all the manuals and driver disks for everything.

You might consider an IBUILTIT System. These are great systems and you can put in whatever hardware you want! ;)

stephen64...I'm yanking your chain a bit....;)

The IBUILTIT Systems are computers you assemble yourself, selecting the components you want for the install.

The problems with proprietary systems is you are normally limited as to your choices of components, and then if there are problems you wind up losing the use of your computer for weeks while in transport.

If you build it yourself and you diagnose a problem with a component you can substitute and be back up and running.

Warranties usually prohibit your going under the hood (even knowing what the problem is) to repair or replace!

You've excellent support here for the endeavor and suggestions on purchase!

Heehee :p, I want that link, too! To think, I did all that work myself when I could have just ordered one! :D

Seriously, tho, Whyzman, you have to stop  confusing people! ;)

Does building it yourself save much money? Cheers

That depends on how good you are at scrounging up deals. In many cases you will pay less to buy a system assembled from a big company, but you will lose in other less tangible ways. If you have the technical competence to build your own, you will learn a lot in the process and you will know your system better than any tech support person could.

Generally no, but it depends on what kind of system you want. If you want a standard mid-range system for internet & email, you will end up paying much more by building it yourself and you won't really gain much in quality. If you have another PC or two to grab parts from, you can save some money, tho. If you're like me, a gamer, you will save tons of money!

Also in general, by building yourself, your PC will have many more options for upgrading. If you buy, you may not even be able to upgrade the processor!

I, respectfully wish to disagree with you......

No, not on the money issues, but on the quality and another area were most people wouldn't think.....the OS.

You will, with a build your own of any level (budget to high performance) have to buy an OS. The major advantage to that is you will have the full installer, and not some crippled restore disk.

The area of quality is also an area to debate, most major manufacturers use either proprietary motherboards, or "customized" versions of a motherboard. Both of which would most likely be sub-par on pwerformance.

Ok yeah, I'll give you that one, mjc, but I doubt my parents could ever tell the difference! :p I guess that's my only defense for typing that...

Yep- Nothing like going with an Ibuiltit!
The only drawback is they have horrible customer support.

(I screen all my calls and rarely answer the phone) :D
