Anyone have an oppinion regarding stuffing "extra" memory in PCs using NT OSs?

MS usually says: "more is better".

In the old days there was a warning about adding more memory than the system's cache could address.

I've see SIS Sandra tune-up report telling me my 430-tx board couldn't cache 200 properly. (running 98se) Does this apply to NT systems?

Any comments appreciated.

The cache is a physical thing and is part of the processor (on later CPUs actually on the processor die) and it operates without regard to OS...so yes it still matters for NT. And the various flavors of the 430 chipset are notorious for their caching problems.

Notorious cacheing problems- eh?

Perhaps, I should rephrase the question. Would a 440bx board with a PII see much of an improvemnt running NT if I added 512mb to the existing 256mb? Using apps like Office2k and Photoshop, etc?

No, you probably won't see a 20 or 30% increase in performance or anything like that but it will let you have larger/more programs open at once.

On the 440 or almost any other than the 430 chipsets.......
