Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

You can install Win3.1 from floppies, but you would need to have the disks to do so. That is how it was originally distributed. I am not sure what you mean about downloading it though, download from where??

Even though Win3.1 is considered obsolete by MS they have not relinquished their copyrights to it and downloading it would be considered piracy.....

Ok, are all three of these threads related to the same machine?

If so try to keep them all together...I am going to merge them and then move it to the laptop forum.......

Ok, first we will need to know a little bit more about what you have.....like manufacturer and model of you laptop....

What exactly are you facing.....a blank HD or one that is currently formatted?

In another post I posted a link for an a dapter that will allow you to hook up a laptop hard drive to a desktop machine.

http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18479

that way you could copy the installation files to the drive, reinsert the drive into the laptop and then install.

You could also try a DOS direct cable connection, to copy the files over but be warned it will be very slow and take a conisderable amount of time (at least several hours, so don't try it if you can't run the laptop from the AC adapter...because if the batteries died part way through you would need to start over)

To do this you will need a lap-link (or null-modem) cable and some DOS software....

Here are some links with info/programs......

there are others around, but will take some time to dig up........
