outlook express will not open attachments

Hello, Could someone help me find the reason why I can not open any attachments from any ISP. I have WIN XP home. I just downloaded the 6.1 Outlook still no good. I can remember it working 7 mos. ago when I first purchased but now nothing.If you click the paper clip it asks to open or save,click open and nothing shows in the pane. It will go to a file but can't get it open. Thanks Dennis

Scratching my head here what type of attatchment is this?
When you go into mail then tools> security do you have / Do not allow attatchments to be saved or opened checked?? What happens if you click save??
Does it show another window with a header in subject line?? if it does keep clicking on it and try to open it in every window it pops up.It will eventually open I have noticed this in some emails.

if you trust this attatchment you can also shut down your AV "But not recomend."

Thank you for your help..... What type of attachment? "any kind of attachment from anyone" Secutity the only things checked is "warn me...." and "internet zone"..... If I click save it will name itself but the file will not open. It says something like not coded thanx dennis

There is a documented security setting that stops you from opening attachments in outlook. I do not use outlook. Try poping over to MSKB for more info, unless someone has the solution.

In the meantime have you tried dragging the attachments onto your desktop and opening from there?
