Hi despreatley need some case fans. right know i'm only running on the cpu fan and psu fan. i know, dumb huh? well i was to anxious to run the system. This thing is so noisy i can hardley stand it. I have a thermaltake dragon P4 on the cpu that has an adjustable setting for low meduim and high. Its so noisy. what do u guys suggest that is quiet and will do the job of cooling a 1.8ghz p4? also, I have recently bought 2 Vantec Stealth 80x80x25 case fans and planning to buy 3 more for all the fan holes in my case. its a full tower with 5 total fan spots. i bought the these fans because most reviews on them are positive and there suppose to be quiet. i hope anyways. i need quiet, what do u guy suggest here? also, what is the average temps that the case should be at and the cpu?
thanks,
chad.

Hello chadharris,
Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
You might want to check out Verax (http://www.asiint.com/verax.htm) for some interesting reading. And also a review on them HERE (http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1201).
Where do you have this positioned so that it's creating this sonic boom you're experiencing?

If your CPU fan is sensor controlled, when you install the other fans, the noise may die down because it won't have to work so hard to keep the chip from burning up. I would avoid running the system until you get the other fans installed.

the fan isnt sensor controlled to the cpu. it just has 3 manual sets, slow, medium and fast. fast sounds like the thing is getting ready for lunch sequence and about to take off. it does however keep the cpu resonably cool. I've been thinking about switching with the Thermaltake Spark 7 (<a href="http://www.thermaltake.com/products/spark/spark7.htm">click here for specs</a>) tell me what you guys think about this fan. I dont think its for sale yet because I cant find it anywhere. but it looks like a good fan. anyways, i think i'm going to stick with the vantec stelth fan becuase it does push a little more air than the verax, thanks for the input though! very intresting fan and definatley quiet! i'm about to upgrade cpu to a 2.4ghz and add some new features so i would need a little more airflow. also, what are your opinions on liquid cooling? do you think its worth the time and does it cool anybetter than traditional cooling?
thanks,
chad.

As I understand it, liquid cooling is primarily for overclocking, so if you are planning to do that, it may be worthwhile.
For the ThermalTake, they indicate that the online stores here:
http://www.thermaltake.com/where/online.htm
should carry it.

yeah, i've checked all thoese and they dont carry it. not yet anyways. even tigerdirect doesnt carry it. but i did find this, check it out. Its made by Evergreen Technologies (<a href="http://www.evertech.com/pdfs/thermagic/thermagicccspis.pdf" target="_blank">specs</a>) and heres a pic-><a href="http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=E24-0091" target="_blank">here</a>. that looks like something i might get in conjunction with the stealth fans i should be able to have a quite system with good temperature control. what do you guys think about the evergreen TherMagic?
thanks,
chad.

A couple of comments.
It looks like it is really heavy and that can be a problem for some systems. It doesn't explain why it is supposedly able to get such good cooling and how it is different from other heatsink/fan combos, which makes me suspicious. They guarantee their product, but do they also guarantee the CPU??
Secondly, I'd be real careful about ordering from Tiger Direct, they are really low rated by a number of different rating groups and my personal experience with them resulted in asking to be removed from their mailing list.

here is a review posted on sept. 9th 2002 by monkeyreviews.com (<a href="http://www.monkeyreview.com/reviews/index.php?action=fullreview&id=181" target="_blank">review</a>) he had alot of good things to say about it and has some pretty detailed pictures. i looks cool but might create alot of noise. he compared it to a thermaltake volcano 9 and it out preformed it. its only 2 pounds. but the rear fan runs at 7000rpm which is kinda loud. it replaces a rear fan so it doubles as a cpu cooling unit and case fan. check out the review, you might have second thought about it like i did.

I was assuming they were talking about that 2 pounds sitting on top of the CPU and that is heavy. I could see from the review that the weight on the CPU is actually quite minimal and the cooler is mounted to the back of the case. It looks like a good cooler if you are overclocking and have $100 to spend on it. Even without overclocking it would be nice, but a little too pricey for me. I do like the idea of getting all that weight off of the CPU.
On a side note: it seems odd that there is better info about this thing in a review than in the specs link you posted earlier. I didn't even get the clear message that this was a liquid cooler from the specs.
