About two years ago, I put together the following system:

Intel D815EEA MoBo
Intel Celeron 700
256M RAM
Maxtor 7200rpm Ultra ATA 40gig HD
Pioneer DVD 106S
Plextor 12/10/32A CD-RW
Win 2K Pro SP3
DSL to net thur WinPoet
I have the most recent BIOS and Drivers installed.
I'm using the MoBo's intergrated video, sound and LAN.

I use this system for work only (no gaming) and up 'till now it's been rock solid.

Here's the problem:

The last few days, the machine will hang on boot and I get the following message:

Copyright 1996-2001 Intel Corporation

Intel Corporation D815EEA Desktop Board Serial # BLEAXXXXXXXXXXXXX
EA81510A.86A.0051.P11.0106190714

Intel(R) Celeron(tm) processor, 700 MHz

Fixed Disk 0: Maxtor 5T030H3 (Ultra DMA Mode ATA/100)
ATAPI CD-ROM Pioneer DVD-ROM ATAPI Model DVD-106S0109
ATAPI CD-ROM PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W1210A

Legacy Keyboard...Detected
Legacy Mouse......Detected
USB Legacy........Enabled

Press F1 to Resume

When I hit F1 the machine boots normally and everything works !

I haven't added any new hardware or software in about three months and this problem showed up 2 days ago.

At this point this is more of an annoyance than a problem but I would like to to know the solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

HI Vic!

As I've stated, I've haven't made any changes to this system before this problem occurred and I'm the only one who uses this system.

After the problem started, I reset the BIOS to its default configuration without effect.

The machine will boot normally afer pressing F1 and everything works fine.

Two years could well be about the life expectancy of the CMOS battery. Have you tried replacing it? A lot of "funny" errors on boot are down to this. Worth replacing anyway as they are cheap enough.

My first guess would be the battery too, since it isn't saying a specific error, and it looks like it is being generated from the BIOS.

Yeh, it's like a BIOS setting has changed to enable this display of information, but since you haven't altered anything it means the settings have altered all by themselves.

CONCLUSION
Your CMOS battery is going flat or a virus is playing games with your settings.

Thanks for the advice folks, here's what I did:

1) Ran a virus scan - came back with nothing

2) Replaced the CMOS battery with a new one I know to be good.

3) Set up the BIOS to my previous configuration.

The result: Press F1 to resume :(

I've sent an e-mail to Intel, let you know if I get a response.

I'm the only one that uses this system, I haven't changed any settings, but the other day it started to display the dial up screen at boot. I checked the settings in internet options. 'always dial my default connection' was ticked, (as it had been for the last 2 years) I ticked 'never dial a connection' instead, now it works fine again.

I did have a prob about a year ago, when I couldn't connect, I hadn't changed anything, although I had updated something (maybe ie) when I checked 'never dial a connection' was ticked, I ticked 'always dial my default connection' and everything was fine.

Doesn't make sense. but that's Windows !!!!!

Try to select "Step-By-Step Confirmation" from the startup menu [if the info display doesn't happen before that point].
OK all steps by pressing "Enter" and see which step [if any] results in this display.

Try to find out at what point the display occurs.
[What happens immediately before it.]
