Gonna replace this dieing 12v 40mm fan on the motherboard chipset....gonna run with just the heatsink for now...I put some thermal grease on it (it had none originally).

Just wanted to know if anyone has run their system sans this particular fan and how it did? I do game, but I was thinking of keeping the heavy stuff down to a minimum until I get the fan replaced.

I understand this fan is a problem child of this motherboard so it is just luck that it has lasted this long for me.

Edit: OK, I think maybe I should add some info on the system...LOL

Hey Bass,

Chipset fan on my A7V133 was the first thing to go...took about one week! The thing would grind and whine...'twas awful sounding! I contacted ASUS and they sent a replacement...exact same fan...it too began vibrating within a couple of weeks...

Indeed, a problem child. I remember on their Forums some OEM guy had assembled a dozen of them and was getting complaints from nearly all the units he sent out...he was not a happy camper! I liked their solution...of sending me another "problem child!"

I went with a Thermaltake Blue Orb (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/chipset/tgf020.htm) and have never looked back! Hehe :D

It is quiet and works like a charm! ;)

I had not attempted to run sans the fan...sorry, I'm no help there!

Thanks Whyzman!

That particular fan fit onto the mobo in the same spots (snap-on) after removing the OEM heatsink?

I switched to the blue orb for my GF2 it is nice and peaceful.

I guess I lucked out..been nearly 2yrs with this pc ;)

I seem to remember just removing the OEM POJ (Piece of Junk!:D) and the Blue Orb went on right in its place.
